If going on a trip aboard a hotel barge is too expensive or too confining, every canal in France has boat rentals and many of the boats are quite luxurious. I once used one that had three cabins and two heads/bathrooms. There is no danger of seasickness because the canals are absolutely flat water, and you go so slow you don't have to worry about sinking yourself. And if you fall in, the canals are seldom more than three feet deep.
Boats come in all sizes, some with only one cabin and others have up to four with double beds.
