Edgewood Plantation

4800 John Tyler Highway
Charles City

Now a bed and breakfast, this Gothic Revival mansion was built in 1849. Edgewood is a diverse place. It has been a home, church, post office and a war signal post for the Confederacy.

In one of the upstairs bedroom windows the name "Lizzie" is scratched. It is believed that the woman who engraved the pane lost her true love to the Civil War. Visitors and guests frequently report seeing a woman standing in the same window with a candle in her hand. Is she still waiting for him to come marching home?
