I'm not sure how many of you have ever seen the movie "Fools Rush In" with Selma Hayek and Matthew Perry, but it's about Vegas and the Canyon. Very appropriate for my trip, since I had come to the canyon as a side trip from Vegas.
They told us the story of the squirrels. Before the canyon was made, there was a family of squirrels. When the canyon started to divide the land, some squirrels were stuck on the north rim, and some were stuck on the south rim. Each division of squirrels developed their own characteristics. They had more fur, and were a little bigger. The ones to the south were leaner, meaner, and scruffier. Despite their differences, they were the same squirrel - genetically.
I thought the story was a movie line, but it's actually a scientific fact - according to the Canyon people. Though they could just be pulling my leg. :)
The other fact that interested me about the Canyon is that it's basically an upside-down mountain. The type of rock that you usually find at the base of the mountain is at the top of the Canyon, and the type of rock you find at the top of a mountain is at the bottom of the Canyon. Wow!
