In honor of Benjamin Franklin's 300th birthday, Philadelphia has put together a pleasant, low-key family activity with its “Breakfast with Ben” event. This is one of many special events. Held one Saturday each month, the local Ben Franklin lookalike joins families with their children for a breakfast buffet. “Ben” greets each child and shares stories. The gentleman bears an uncanny resemblance to Ben Franklin and does a great job of staying in character. He tells funny stories and shares his enthusiasm for the history of the City of Brotherly Love. He got the whole crowd singing sea shanties and laughing at his stories.
At price of $19/$12 per adult/child, the breakfast was a little pricey but not that much more the breakfast buffet at the hotel. Though the food is certainly not the reason for attending, it was adequate and offered enough variety to please most tastes. [Editor's Note: Breakfast with Ben has been discontinued.]
