St. Thomas Stories and Tips

Birding the Islands

Beach birding Photo, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

St. Thomas has a diverse population of resident and migratory birds of over 210 species. Summer resident species are found along the coats (gulls, terns, boobies, pelicans, and frigate birds). The dry inland forests are alive with breeding birds like the cuckoos, thrashers, hummingbirds, doves, pigeons, and the gregarious parakeets. Listen for their calls, and you've found them. Several rustic trails take you into the seldom seen relms of these tropical birds. Bring your binoculars, camera, water, and enjoy a relaxing hike with nature alive.
