We took a day trip to the island of Moorea, and after a driving tour that included breathtaking scenic views, the famous Bali Hai, and a pineapple farm, we stopped for lunch. The traditional Tahitian village reminded me of an old American-Indian village, and locals were selling goods like pottery, clothing, and real tattoos! We had a traditional lunch of fishes and fruits under a tiki hut as we watched a tribal dance performance.
As we were about to leave, we had a chance to witness an American couple renewing their wedding vows in a traditional Tahitian ceremony. Women were dressed in long floral robes with leis in their hair and the men were in similar attire. The couple rode in (in the middle of a monsoon) on a raft to complete their ceremony on the beach. It was a romantic and significant spectacle to behold.
