Quote: The Room Photo - Westin Excelsior Rome, Rome, Italy After a long flight in from the States plagued with delays and mis-connects, we arrived for our stay at the Westin Excelsior hotel. Although in more of an upscale neighborhood that tended to shut down at night, close-by subway stations made the hotel and all of Rome's attractions very accessible.
Upon check-in, we received an upgraded room, and although it was still just a room (as opposed to a suite) it was still very plush. The bathroom featured a separate tub and shower and was completely clad in marble. Double vanities and two chandeliers topped over the atmosphere.
The room featured a large, comfortable Westin Heavenly Bed and a decent sized flat panel television. Our over-sized windows opened to a small (very small) balcony overlooking Via Veneto.
Service from the hotel was great, and the concierge provided a few excellent suggestions. Maid service was impeccable, and we enjoyed receiving turn-down service with chocolates.
I would definitely recommend this hotel, just beware of the price. With Starwood Preferred Guest points, free nights or cash and points nights are easily obtainable and make the hotel a little more affordable.

Quote: Stayed here Oct 07 with a friend and used Starwood points. If I had to pay for the room since it was their high season it would have been over $1,000. I don't think any room is worth that kind of money but since I used points it was free. I had a large room with french doors to a balcony. They left fresh fruit in the room upon arrival. The bedding was all down and very fluffy and inviting. It felt like heaven at the end of a day of touring!! Most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Large TV that had some English channels. The bathroom had 2 sinks and a bidet. The shower was my favorite. In additon to a high pressure shower there was a hand held shower that ran at the same time. It was in walking distance to Trevi fountain and Spanish steps. Train is 1 block away and easy to navigate. Conceirge was very helpful. I would definately recommend it and would stay here again myself.

Quote: Impressive, luxurious, comfortable. Had misfortune of arriving during national labor strike, but management worked tirelessly to accomodate. Stayed in impressive corner suite on SEside of hotel, not much view but quieter than much desired Via Veneto side (rooms ending in 41 - 51). Walking distance: American Embassy, Spanish Steps, Via Condotti. No children programs but provides cribs, guard rails, children"s menu, etc. Utilize Concierge to recommend great places for children, excellent places for adults. Tip generously - recommendations are priceless! Highly recommend!

Quote: To get here from Rome Fiumicino airport, take a train to Stazione Termini, then go downstairs into the subway and take subway to "Barberini" station. Before boarding the train in the airport, make sure to validate the ticket in the yellow machine. From "Barberini" take bus 95, 63, 62 or 116 along Via Veneto. You will see Excelsior on the right hand side right after the US Embassy.

The hotel is very impressive. It just finished a complete restoration that went on for 2 years, and all the rooms are newly refurbished. The rooms are rather large with furniture looking like antique. The bathroom has 2 sinks built in black marble counter top, a full bath, shower, toilet and bidet. It is tiled with "travertine" on the floor and walls.

Unfortunately, the staff is very indifferent. Nobody seems to care much about people who are staying there. The concierge and porters are only interested in tips. The floor in the room I stayed in hasn’t been vacuumed in ages, the sinks weren’t cleaned and had water stains all over the counter top. When we asked to get extra towels, it would take a while to get them. There is no way that they will bring you an iron in your room citing something about fire safety. I was extremely angry one night when around 10 pm one of the staff knocked on the door to come in and check the bar as if there wasn’t enough time to do that in my absence.

The "La Cupola" restaurant is being renovated and is closed. And the cupola at the top of the hotel is a villa-suite and you can’t visit it.
