This beautiful open-air gazebo is home to many concerts and public gatherings. There are weekly live concerts held at this bandstand. The surrounding park is a great place to have a picnic and enjoy the scenic view of Hilo Bay. You can see the wonderful Hawaii's World Heritage Festival during summer which features cultures non-stop performances from around the world. Artists, crafters and food vendors sell international products and cuisine while cultural organizations supply free demonstrations and information about their world heritage. They also hold many political rallies at the bandstand for various democratic groups. Mo'oheau Park is named for Chief Ka'aiawa i Mooheau, the son of Kahinu Ho'olulu and George Beckley who gave the land to the Territory of Hawaii in the 1920’s. I would recommend coming by to the Mo'ohea Park Bandstand to listen to some live local bands or to see a local event. Note that there are a lot of homeless people that make Mo'ohea Park their home.
