Quote: Coral Gables, Florida Photo - City of Coral Gables' Venetian Pool, Coral Gables, Florida And last but not least is The Venetian Pool. This is absolutely the most beautiful public pool I have ever seen. The pool was created from a coral rock quarry in 1923 by Denman Fink and Phineas Paist. It has pink stucco towers, candy-cane Venetian poles, caves, a cobblestone bridge and waterfalls that surround the clear spring-fed waters. The pool was originally one of the most fashionable places to hang out in Coral Gables.

Quote: "The Venetian Pool is ""most likely the only swimming pool to be on the National Register of Historic Places."" Formed from a coral rock quarry in 1923, it represents the history of Miami’s development. The pool is centrally located in the Coral Gables neighborhood, and as clichéd as it may sound, it’s ""fun for the whole family."" The 820,000-gallon pool is fed with cool, fresh water daily and features two waterfalls, coral caves, and grottos. The surrounding buildings appropriately showcase Venetian-style architecture, designed by Denman Fink, the uncle of the founding father of Coral Gables, George Merrick. Note: guests must be three-years or older to enter.

Quote: The Venetian Pool is an absolutely beautiful and historic swimming hole in Coral Gables. Formed from a coral quarry in 1923 and renovated in 1989, it is now listed as an historic treasure on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Along with the 820,000 gallons of water, there are rock caves, grottos, and children's wading areas surrounded by Italian architecture. The building has locker rooms, a restaurant and snack bar.

The pool is open year round, closed on Mondays except in the summer when it is open 7 days a week. Hours vary, usually opening at 10 or 11am, and closing between 4:30 and 7:30pm depending on the day of the week and time of year.

Rates are also variable, with non-residents of Coral Gables charged $9.50 April through October, and $6.25 November through March.

I was there on a weekday in the spring and it was nearly deserted, only about five other people were there. It was great having it all to myself, and made for a nice romantic place to swim amidst the waterfalls with my honey.

Quote: The Venetian pool may be the most unique swimming pool built in the world. It was built in 1923 from coral rock quarry. It is fed daily from fresh spring water and has an 820,000-gallon capacity. The pool has two waterfalls and several coral caves. This has been one of my favorites to visit throughout my life. The landscape and building surrounding the pool are magnificent in themselves. The area is like being in Venice with several loggias, porticos, an island, a beach, and stone bridge.

The pool has always been popular throughout its history and currently remains so with swimmers, wedding parties and for special events. I use to like coming here instead of visiting the beach since parking and the traffic were not anywhere as busy as the beach. Be sure to visit the pool at nighttime for a different feel.
