Sin City isn't a place to go when you're trying to save money. But one of the best ways to horde your dollars for the craps table is to skimp on the hotel--and the best place for that is the Flamingo. Sure, it looks rundown on the outside, especially with the Wynn dominating Las Vegas Boulevard. But the Flamingo, which I've stayed at twice and have reservations for during my upcoming Vegas escape, is the Strip's hotel jackpot.
The Flamingo is centrally located, so it's easy to walk between casinos. This makes avoiding the 45-minute long cab lines easy. It's also much nicer inside than you'd expect. Seventies-esque carpet still lines the tower hallways, but the rooms have been updated for this century, and are nicer than the Monte Carlo and Excalibur. For daytime action, the Flamingo's pool is massive. There are plenty of lounge chairs and the hotel is far enough away that it doesn't cast shadows during prime sunning hours.
No doubt this isn't the most luxurious hotel on the Strip, but you're paying hundreds of dollars less than Ceasars. And who goes to Vegas to spend time in their room anyway?
