We did not know what to expect from the Majestic Hotel having been rather disappointed with our previous accommodation elsewhere in Vietnam. The beautifully ornate exterior of the 1925 built Majestic Hotel loomed before us as we drove alongside the Majestic from the airport. We had to wait for our rooms to be ready but took this chance to explore the nearby streets of Ho Chi Minh City, previously officially known as Saigon. Within walking distance are the Reunification Palace, Historic Post Office, Opera House, and a little further a field, the Ben Thanh markets.
Upon arriving back at our hotel we were excited to explore our massive and beautifully decorated room, with foyer, flat screen TV and a large bathroom. It is not often you have plenty of room to move when you book a triple room and have the associated luggage. We did here in the room we got, though our parents received a decidedly smaller room. A turn down service each night left us with chocolate and a ‘good night’ story on our pillows. We were treated to a free buffet dinner which was average but you can’t complain, a free massage per room and free passes to the sauna, Jacuzzi, and steam room which we took great pleasure in using.
The rooms looked over the Saigon River, but being on the second floor we were subjected to the noise of the Ho Chi Minh’s busy streets despite being told the double glazed windows blocked out any noise. This did not bother me though and left my sleep undisturbed but a light sleeper might not be so forgiving and a pool view room might be a wise choice.
Eating in the hotel can be comparatively quite pricey, as it was from an Australian point of view, with everything charged in the equivalent US dollars. The breakfast was good, but nothing special, and might not be to the taste of the fussy Western eater, with many a weird and wonderful Vietnamese dishes. They do though have the standard eggs, bacon, toast, and pastries on offer.
An absolutely beautifully presented hotel that I would have no hesitations of staying in again.
