Quote: South Side of Pier Photo - Cocoa Beach, Orlando, Florida From our condo near Disney World, Cocoa Beach was about an hour and 20 minutes driving east on Highway 528. We went through three toll booths, which added a bit more time than we had anticipated to our journey, but they totaled less than $3 for our minivan.

We paid the $5 fee to park in the lot at the end of the pier and left our beach stuff in the van while we had lunch at Marlins Good Times Bar & Grill. We picked up some beach towels ($12.99/each - best price we found in any of the shops) at OCEANOTIONS and went to stake out our little bit of beach. The water was warm and the sand even warmer! It was a fabulous day of sunbathing, shell seeking, and wave jumping. We ended up having to pull the kids out of the water kicking and screaming when it was time to go home!

Quote: Cocoa Beach pelicans Photo - Cocoa Beach, Orlando, Florida While Daytona Beach is more of a biker’s (or drag racer’s) beach, Cocoa Beach is more a surfer’s beach. Waves are good all year round. The sand is soft and white, but the water can be somewhat murky. The atmosphere is decidedly less glamorous than Miami and less crowded than Daytona. If you drive far enough (only a few miles past the center of town), you can usually find a spot all to yourself.

Quote: We traveled as a group of six with two 40-somethings, one senior adult, and three children: ten, eight, and five years old. Cocoa Beach will never win an award for being the most beautiful Florida beach. It is rather raunchy and rough. Scattered with seaweed and the occasional trash left from careless tourists, it has a somewhat run-down feel. What we love about Cocoa Beach is its "real" beach feel. It is an excellent place to swim, walk, boogie board, even surf. It has a great pier with a good restaurant and lots of entertainment. Rough edges and all, Cocoa has a great beach feel.

We spent the day at Cocoa Beach as we have several times before. This area was hit very hard by hurricanes, so there is a lot of rebuilding going on.

We bought some sand pails at the gift shop on the pier. The price was very comparable to what you’d pay at a discount store and allowed us to spend the day making sand castles.

Cocoa is an excellent beach to people-watch. It is so relaxing to lie back on a beach chair, listening to the surf and watching the parade of people continually pass you by.

Cocoa is very easily accessible from Orlando by the BeeLine Expressway. It is a quick and easy day-trip that you’ll love.

Quote: Go early to get a good spot, enjoy the mild waves with your family, and taste that "groovy" salt water. Excellent souvenir shops in the area.

Quote: We drove from our resort to Cocoa Beach on Thursday. It was a perfect day! We enjoyed shopping at Ron Jon's (we parked next door at Cocoa Beach Surf Company's FREE parking garage) and then walking about 1.5 blocks to the shore. We bought a KFC picnic to eat on the beach and sat in the 87-degree sunshine without any humidity! IT WAS GLORIOUS!

To get to Cocoa, just hop on the tollroad and drive 45 minutes over. It costs about $7 in tolls (total) to get over and back, but well worth the trip!
