Quote: Long Bay Beach, Tortola, BVI Photo - Long Bay Beach Resort, Tortola, British Virgin Islands This breathtaking sweep of beach is located at the north end of the island (and is not to be confused with Long Bay Beach on Beef Island). It is one of the most beautiful beaches on Tortola, but it is the high-rent district. It is lined with beach-front accommodations and can be crowded right in front of the resorts, but it will open up if you walk a little to the west. If you have more than a day on the island or more than a few hours in Roadtown, try to get here to see how beautiful it is. It is a 25-minute taxi/drive from Roadtown and will cost about $18 each way.

The walk from my hotel at Apple Bay, steeply uphill and then downhill, was worth it, giving a great view of the bay. I spent an afternoon reading while laying on a beach chair - maybe from a hotel, but nobody controls that.

Experienced swimmers may swim to Smuggler's Cove, where snorkeling is said to be great - but get updated information about the sea conditions, especially in winter.

Quote: At the Hotel Photo - Long Bay Beach Resort, Tortola, British Virgin Islands I stayed in a suite that overlooked the hillside, which afforded a beautiful view but had its downside: to get to the beach you had to walk/run down a steep road and cross the hotel's main road. That wasn't so bad. It was coming back UP the hill that killed. You can also stay closer to the beach, but then you're subjected to lots of little flying no-see-ums (biting creatures that hang out at dusk). That said, I enjoyed my air-conditioned suite with its ceiling fan, refrigerator and little balcony.
