Manega Museum
Manega village
On the road from Ouagadougou to Kongoussi
Manega Museum
ezrab
from Amstelveen
November 14, 2003
Fifty kilometres north of the capital on the road to Kongoussi lies the village of Manega. The village accommodates a surprising museum on the traditional culture of Burkina Faso. It contains a beautiful collection of, among others, masks and musical instruments. A guide will provide a tour, which starts in a little hall where the legend of Princess Yennega is depicted with little statues. Afterwards, halls can be visited where various rites of funerals and festivities are explained. Finally, the tour ends in a garden where a number of traditional houses are built. In the vicinity, some large modern art forms decorate the landscape. Among them is a giant man with stick made entirely of iron.
