Established in May of 1938, it follows a historic Indian trail. The Parkway preserves significant historical sites such as Emerald Mound, the second largest ceremonial mound in the United States, plantation sites, pioneer inns, archeological villages, pioneer and slave cemeteries and an historic housing site, part of the resettlement program of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. This is truly an historical land mass that all should have the opportunity to see and explore. So if you like the great outdoors, history of America, and the family activity, this would be a great stop to make and enjoy.
