On another day of non-diving, we hiked the Sandy Cruz Track, a trail that heads northwest to Sandy Cruz using an old path. We were planning on doing this hike alone but were convinced that a guide was needed. We were told that it was too easy to get lost. We assumed that this was a scare tactic to sell us a guided tour but we were wrong. YOU CAN get lost. We really enjoyed the guided hike.our guide was a native of SABA and knew his island well.

The hike goes through once-cultivated fields that are now returning to forest. We hiked through a rain-forest and a deep ravine known as Deep Gut. Tree ferms were abundant. We also saw the rare purple-throated carib hummingbird. As we ascended, mountain palms became abundant.

I was really impressed with the Organ-pipe cactus plants which grow on this island.

Its really important to wear hiking boots or a good cross-country shoe.
