My husband and I visited Sirmione on our first trip to Europe together and decided that a repeat visit was in order. We were going to be driving in the area, so we stopped there for dinner and a walk around the peninsula. The weather was hot and humid all day and wasn’t any better at the lake. We parked in the big car park as close to the entrance of the town as you can get (only residents/hotel guests/authorized persons are allowed past the castle gates).

We hadn’t really decided what we wanted for dinner so we took a walk down the main street just sort of people-watching. The humidity was really getting to us, and we decided that an ice-cold beer and a pizza sounded spot-on. We happened upon Bar Ristorante Erica on Viale Marconi. It looked busy enough, and they were certainly serving food already.

We sat down at a table in the middle of the covered patio and ordered two medium beers and two pizzas. I had my favourite, quattro stagioni (four seasons), and my husband ordered Hawaiian (proscuitto and pineapple). Both pizzas were pretty good, not outstanding. We were hungry and didn’t set out to find fine cuisine, so the pizza did us fine. Service was mediocre, and they charged 15% on top of your bill for service, whether it was good or bad.

If you find yourself in the area, hungry for pizza and beer, this is a good place to stop. It is located on a busy street, and it is fun to watch all the people walking by. If you are looking for fine Italian cuisine and fine wine, I would suggest going elsewhere, as this is more suited for those looking for a quick bite to eat. Chiuso il Mercoledi (Closed on Wednesdays).
