Merendero El Teco
El Zonte
La Libertad
Merendero El Teco
ext212
from New York
December 13, 2004
A few yards from Horizonte are houses that cook for the surfers staying in the area. We ate at
Merendero El Teco
once for lunch and another time for dinner. Their fried chicken is so good here and so was their fried fish. It was here where we had our
pupusa
(see separate entry) served with
curtido
and salsa. I woke up one morning and ordered it from them.
Pupusa
s are a labor of love so ordering them in the morning is best. They were ready for us during lunch time.
They have a few benches on the rocks, the perfect place to have lunch after a morning swim in the warm waters of El Zonte. Dogs roam around the neighborhood, usually following those with food. They have plenty of dogs at
Merendero
, but a
shoo
from one of the owners teaches them not to bother the guests—at least until the next meal is served.
