Oasis

Oasis
ext212
from New York
December 13, 2004
As soon as you step out of Horizonte Cabins (see separate entry),
Oasis
awaits, perched up on concrete right by the black sand beach. They open the restaurant around 8am so you can order your morning coffee, and they stay open until the last person decides to stop partying. Since young Salvadorians run the place with Alex of Horizonte, they are also up to eating, drinking, and dancing with the guests.
For our first night, Alex convinced all the guests of Horizonte to order lobsters for dinner. They were absolutely delicious and exactly what we were looking to eat for our first night in El Salvador. The cooks served them with potatoes and rice, both glistening with melted butter (
manteca
). Throughout our stay, we tried their fried red snapper, the
latinoamericano
spaghetti, and their typical Salvadorian breakfast of plantains, eggs, and
frijoles
(beans).
