Jennifer's Hamam at Arasta Bazaar (near the Blue Mosque) is a feast for the eyes! It has floor to ceiling shelves of hand woven towels made of cotton, silk, bamboo and linen. The colors are absolutely beautiful and don't diminish with repeated washings. They also wear very well. The storekeeper, Gundus, was very informative -offered advice on the towels and also recommended local restaurants and off-the-beaten-path sites to see. Seeing the towels and meeting Gundus made for a great experience, but it gets better. Gundus told us that Jennifer's Hamam shops employ 9 Turkish families that hand weave using looms. Because of her shops, the weaving tradition, which was dying, is very much alive. A win for the weavers and a definite win for me as I enjoy their towels.
