The hotel is a converted palace and true to the Rana years, it still has that old world architecture and charm. The staff is helpful from the doorman that salutes you and opens the door everytime you walk in to the flowers, fruit and chocolates that are served to you when you arrive. The rooms are clean and comfortable, equipped with a Tv, WiFi and all the little extras that make this a great place to stay. The dining room has a good selection on the menu and the included breakfast has everything from muffins, bacon, traditional fares, omelets made to order, breads and fresh fruit and juices. The atmosphere in the bar is comfortable and a good place to meet people from all over the world. If you're looking for help with a day excursion or a trip of a few days, the help is there. You can also arrange a massage or facial in your room after a long flight or day of traveling. There is laundry service if needed. The custom pool surrounded by gardens in front of the hotel is clean and a nice rest after a day of walking the nearby streets of Thamel. The location is great...near restaurants, the old town of Kathmandu, museums & shopping.I would rate the service at Hotel Shanker as 5 star with a 3 star price.
