Bar El Acebuchal is the sole restaurant in the very small village of Acebuchal, which is settled in the foothills about 5Kms from the beautiful whitewashed village of Frigiliana, about 50 kms from Malaga. This restaurant is accessible by car, however because of the state of the road hire cars are not covered for the last 2 kms of the trip. This has the wonderful result that the restaurant is mainly used by locals and hill walkers. If you do drive there is plenty of off road parking as you begin the descent into the village. Be aware that taxis will not make the journey. The walk is very pleasant to the restaurant where you can relax with large glasses of local beer.Try the home made bread dipped in local olive oil, a must! I always have the wild boar stew. This comes without any bones, and the meat is always pure meat, no fat. Served with potatoes in oil and peppers. Probably one of the best meals I have had. A friend had the lamb in cinnamon and loved it. Although the bread and a main course are enough, try to keep some room for the home made cherry ice cream. Coffee and brandy to end with. The brandy is served in a huge 'gold fish' bowl of a glass. Most main courses are around 12 to 15 euros. The salads, made with fresh apple and tomatoes, are around 7 euros. One salad and a portion of potatoes is enough for 2 people. The restaurant, which only opens during the day, is run by Antonio and his 2 sons. There is a great family atmosphere. Dogs are welcome and can be left to roam or tied up nearby. Bowls and drinking water for pets is available. Feel free to sit in or outside. There is ample shade, and if windy the team put up the wind breaks. Before or after the meal take time just to walk around the village. The village had been derelict for about 40 years before Antonio rebuilt the area. Only a very small amount of people live in the area. In fact the menu from the restaurant shows before and after restoration. An excellent restaurant, one which I shall go back to time and time again.
