Although the Pleasure Beach is the kids favourite place in Blackpool mine actually has to be the Tower. The iconic Blackpool Tower may not be as pretty as the one in Paris but it has its own charms and it is especially dramatic against the backdrop of the usually grey skies in Blackpool. I also like the fact that it acts as a focal point and can be seen everywhere in the town so that if we get lost we can always find out way again. Visiting the tower really is something that you should do if you are in the town for a visit as it is such a good experience and the view from the top of the tower is spectacular. It isn’t the cheapest thing to do especially if you have a family but it is something that really does need to be experienced and it is something that I think is worth the money. The view from the top of the tower makes the entrance price worth it alone in my opinion. To visit the top of the tower you need to buy tickets for the Tower Eye. These cost £12.60 for adults and £9.60 for children but you can buy them online in advance which does make them cheaper. Buying them this way costs £9.45 for adults and £7.20 for children. For your money you get access to the top of the tower which starts first with a short movie in 4D about a small boy visiting Blackpool. The movie is basically an advert for Blackpool but the effects were amazing and even my kids agreed it looked great and better than some movie effects they have seen at the cinema before. After watching the film it is time to go up to the top of the tower and see the view. As soon as you come out of the lift you will see huge picture windows which offer amazing views over the Irish Sea. The view really is breath taking. The main attraction of visiting the top of the tower however is the glass floor. I found this to be petrifying although my kids had absolutely no trouble with walking over it. I knew that it was perfectly safe in my head but that didn’t make it any easier to actually walk along a glass floor looking down at the street far below. I am glad I did it though as it was exhilarating and definitely the best part of going up the tower. You can also go outside up at the top of the tower depending on the weather and this again is amazing even though for safety reasons the outside of the tower is pretty much enclosed now with safety wire to stop anybody from falling off or jumping. The views are great made all the more dramatic by the fact that Blackpool is usually grey and windy so the sea looked particularly dramatic. You can also visit the world famous Ballroom though this again you need to pay to go in to. It costs £9 for adults but you do get to take 2 children in with you for nothing. My kids weren’t interested in visiting the Ballroom but they did agree to stand on the upper balconies and have a look as this was free and even they agreed that it was a stunning room. I have visited the Ballroom before with my sister and we both absolutely loved it as the music and the atmosphere was something that you just can’t get anywhere else so I would highly recommend that you stop in for a couple of hours and just enjoy the ambiance and watch a few dances while enjoying afternoon tea. As well as the Tower Eye and the Ballroom you can also visit the circus at the bottom of the tower. We didn’t do this as the times weren’t convenient for us but it is definitely something that we plan to do next time we are in Blackpool. Blackpool tower is an iconic building in Blackpool and around the UK and it is something that you really should make the effort to go and see. There is loads to see and do inside it so although you can appreciate it for free from the outside it is well worth paying some money to go into the tower and especially to the top because the views are absolutely amazing and well worth the price of entry.
