Can't tell you the HOURS I spent pouring over reviews of hotels all over Ko Samui.....Thailand is a VERY long way from home. I originally booked the Sala Samui, but when I set my eyes on the family suite at Rocky's--which was booked-- I fell in LOVE with the huge 2 bedroom pool villa! It looked like just the perfect place for my husband and I to bring our two adult daughters. Yes, I overlooked the fact that the beach would be a bit disappointing and that the location was a 'car ride' away from everything (we rented a car because of this)....but THAT villa would allow our family to reconnect and spend some time together while having a little bit of our own living space. There was weeks of back and forth emails- a 13 hour time difference really made this quite a process- where we negotiated price, timing etc. Then there were two phone calls to make sure all the details were tidied up. We cancelled our reservation at Sala Samui and finally submitted our substantial deposit. FINALLY, we were all set and could now dig in to 'what to do' part of our vacation..,..OR, so we thought!!!The REAL truth is your booking is NOT safe at Rocky's. THE email came last week that gave the disappointing news that they 'mistakenly' overbooked....ahem....got a better offer, for our pool villa and then made an offer of a 30% discount(we already had a 10% discount for our other room) plus transfers for two rooms that added up to half the size of the one we booked and a whole lotta money....the one we gave up our discounted rooms at Sala Samui...no contest . This, they probably thought was suppose to appease us. In my part of the world this is called...the bait and switch (get them in and then sell the room you can't later). Give me a break, do they really think I or YOU really believe that with all that correspondence they made an error. And, if by any chance there is a kernel of truth....would YOU want to trust your booking with a place that did this? So, if you roll the dice with Rocky's you may get the room you hoped and dreamed of.....or.....you may not. Is it worth the roll of the die!
