We went to Occidental during DC Restaurant Week. They were offering a 3-course meal for a very good price. It was our First time visit tio this restaurant. When we arrived we were welcomed by a friendly lady. She took our coats and guided us to our table. Occidental is a small restaurant with a good warm atmosphere. This restaurant is located next to the Willard Hotel. The walls are completely covered with photos with famous and important people who visited Occidental in the past. Our table was a little bit at the small size for four people. Our waiter told us what the specials were, but we wanted to take the advantage of the 3-course meal. We ordered two bottles of wine, one red and one white. I have to say the portions were on the small size. Maybe it was because of the restaurant week menu, I don’t know. The food was very good and delicious. It was served on a heated plate. That’s a plus for me. There was also enough time between the meals. Very good, because we Europeans like to dine all evening. The service was average. We had empty glasses a few times. When we reached for the bottle of wine our waiter rushed to our table. He must have noticed this in front, but that’s my epinion. After the 3-course menu we ordered coffee. I think they thought we were ready for our check, but that wasn’t the case. After coffee it was time for a cheese plate with a glass of port. They couldn’t tell us what kind of cheese it was. We had to figure it out ourselves. We and another party were the last people in the restaurant. The staff wanted to go home, that was very clear. After paying our check we walked to the front desk for our coats. There was nobody to get our coats. We waited and waited…. After a few minutes we decided to look for our coats ourselves. The service was not what we expected from a high end restaurant. It needs some improvement. Some day I will go back and I hope that the service is better than I experienced last time.
