We stayed in the Jumeirah Essex house for a long weekend in August. The hotel is centrally located opposite Central park Southside with great views of the park from the upper floors of the hotel. It is situated close to all attractions such as Broadway and it is within easy to walk to most places especially the theatres museums shops and park. It is relatively easy to get around Manhattan from here. There is a plentiful supply of taxis and the doorman will hail one for you. It is also not too far from the subway and near bus routes. We were warmly welcomed and greeted on arrival by a doorman who dealt with our suitcases which were then brought to our room within five minutes of arrival. We were offered ice cold refreshing towels by the check in staff. The hotel lobby is quite beautiful all adorned in stylish reproduction antique furniture and fittings. The walls are marble and the floor tiles are elegant. There are lots of painting adorning the walls which are very tasteful indeed. The lobby can be a bit busy at times and there may be a bit of a queue at check in. Everyone was warm, friendly and very professional as one would expect and they went out of their way to please guests. The concierge was very helpful making enquiries and bookings on our behalf and he was very knowledgeable about Manhattan..We were originally given a low floor room which gave us wonderful views of the top of the trees but when we asked for a higher floor we were given a room on the 15th floor overlooking central park. It was quite a spectacular sight. The rooms as are most of the rooms in New York are small but comfortable. There were some wonderfully nice views over central park with a telescope for use in the room. The beds were nice and comfortable having a memory foam on them which enhances comfort. There is an unusual lighting system which is controlled from the telephone system and it can be set to alter the mood of the room. It was a little bit temperamental to start with but once you get the hang of how to set the lighting it was easy. There are sensor lights which come on as soon as you put your foot on the floor during the night lighting the way to the bathroom which was a great idea. The bathroom was spotlessly clean although a bit small but the showers were good there was a nice strong flow of water which was hot. There were nice thick fluffy towels which were changed twice daily. Room service very fast and housekeeping responded immediately to requests for more pillows. The rooms are cleaned to a very high standard and turn down service was good and unobtrusive. Security was brilliant and we felt very safe in the hotel. All guests had to show their room key before being allowed into the lifts although the security guard was always very professional and polite to guests and visitors alike. I observed how he stopped someone from going up to the rooms he did it in such a polite and graceful way.All facilities in the hotel are well maintained and of the highest standard but the bar and restaurants are very expensive. The standard of the food is of a very high quality and the restaurant has a peaceful ambiance. On our last day in New York we did not want to waste a moment of time as our flight was the last one of the day out of JFK so we were able to put our luggage in storage to be collected later that day. The storage facility for luggage was a locked room into which only the staff had access. This enabled us to have a full day out in New York before collecting our cases and heading off to the airport. My opinion of the hotel is that it is extremely comfortable and was like a home from home and well worth the price. Despite being in the middle of Manhattan it was a peaceful haven to return to each day. I thought the staff were very friendly helpful and professional at all times. I loved the exclusivity of the place it was beautiful, ornately decorated and very comfortable.I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would stay here again without any hesitation.
