No Frills but Lovely Traditional Meal

For our first dinner in Venice we went to a nearby restaurant to our room, where the owner of our vacation rental apartment recommended. Ostaria al Garanghelo was just a street over from us in the area of the Rialto and seemed nice enough to try.

It's located on Calle dei Botteri which is lined with lively cafes, shops and restaurants, and offers several outdoor tables out front. We just waited a few minutes before a table opened and took a seat on the street where we had a good view of the activity on the alley during dinner.

The servers here were very nice, almost seemed like it was a small family-run restaurant and everyone was related. It's pretty small, although there were some open tables inside as most people preferred to sit outside. The menu is not too extensive, but offers simple and traditional lists of dishes.

Prices are decent, but portions are on the smaller side (but it's let you save room for their amazing chocolate truffle-like dessert!) Among us we chose a wonderful white lasagna, a seafood risotto, a salad, and spicy spaghetti. Everything was very tasty and well prepared.

The house wine was nice enough, and the overall casual atmosphere makes you just want to sit back and relax for a few glasses. Enjoy your time and be sure to try some dessert and caffe. If you're staying in the area you may even return for another meal (we did!)
