I visited the Plitvice Lakes National Park with my boyfriend in May 2011, and it was incredible. Both my boyfriend and I are frequent travelers, and this place still wowed us. We visited in mid-May which was the perfect time to visit. The weather was a perfect 75 degrees everyday, and it had not yet reached the height of tourist season. The Plitvice Lakes are a series of acqua blue lakes cascading into each other with great hiking trails surrounding the lakes. They are located in eastern Croatia practically on the border with Bosnia. It took us about 6 hours to hike around all of the lakes, and it was a doable hike for all levels of hikers. We saw people from various age ranges. One thing to keep in mind is that there are pretty much no food options within in park; however, it is possible to rent apartments in the park or nearbry with kitchens and buy food for lunch and dinner at local markets. Note that the markets nearby were outside of the park and closed at 8pm. As long as you come prepared, you shouldn't have any problems.I would definitely put this on your list of places to see in your lifetime. You will not be disappointed!
