My stay at the Jumeirah Essex House in March 2011 was simply divine - from the luxurious room to the exquisite food to the fine service from the hotel staff. The rooms, while small (it is New York), are sleek and modern, with a large flat screen television, a bevel sink in the bath, and the highest quality linens and towels. I've never experienced a hotel towel so thick! Many of the lights throughout the room have motion sensors, so you're never having to look for the switch, and all the lights "dim up" and "dim down" slowly, creating a magical feeling in the room. The chaise lounge was perfect for reading the daily paper, of which you can select your favorite to receive. The hotel restaurant, South Gate, has broad selection of American cuisine in a very sleek, glass open area. The small bread bites brought to the table were a very nice touch, and the tomato basil soup was smooth and rich, without being too filling. Although we had a table of 10, the staff was beyond attentive and catered to every request. The staff at the hotel was very pleasant and helpful, and the concierge did a great job of helping us get the theater tickets we wanted. On a very rainy evening the hotel even had umbrellas for each of us.You simply can't go wrong with the Essex House, and the location is one of the finest in New York City. Central Park is literally right out your front door and Broadway is just a few short blocks away. I will stay again... and again!
