Koutobia This & Koutobia That

Visible from Djemaa El Fna Square is the impressive Koutobia Minaret. This Minaret is, by law, the tallest structure in Marrakech. Entrance is not possible by non-Muslims, but it is worth a closer look. Just behind the Mosque are the Koutobia Gardens, a welcome respite from the madness of the square. And just in front & to the side of the Mosque is Koubba Fatima Zohra's pearl-white domed tomb. Topped with a meringue-looking cupola, this 17th-century mausoleum commemorates Fatima Zohra, the daughter of a religious leader. It is said that Fatima Zohra had the ability to transform into a white dove at night & was a gifted fortune teller.
