You will find a bronze status named "Atlas" in front of Rockfeller Center. It located across 5th Ave from St. Patrick's Cathedral. The sculpture depicts the Ancient Greek Titan Atlas holding the heavens. The North-South axis of the sphere on his shoulders point towards the North Star. The sculpture is 15 feet tall, while the entire statue is 45 feet tall and it weighs seven tons. It was installed in 1937 and created by sculptor Lee Lawrie with the help of Rene Paul Chambellan. Do you know that back in 1937.. people did protest about this bronze status and claiming that it looked like Mussolini.
