We made our reservations 11 months in advance. Site 13 was 100' deep one of the largest in the park on the channel. Site 14 or 15 are the best in the park for an RV & the view of the old bridge. We managed to be there for Christmas in Shorts & New Years Eve. 14 great nights. 2 cool days most of the time 75 sunny 60 at nightIt was very relaxing, sure some sea smells but it has smelled this way for the 35 years I have been visiting. Even when we can not stay at the park we stop for the day beach, views & the memories of great times spent here. It was just my wife & our 13 year old, we took him out of school for 2 extra weeks. Our boy was in the ocean before I could get unpacked. There are 3 or 4 beaches, white sand shows up at low tide a nice time to walk the beach. The park has kayak & snorkel gear rentals. We brought our Kayaks, took them all over & out to the small island. I think a person needs some type of boat here, even a small inflatable. We fished off the new bridge pylons. In the nature center a great place, there was a underwater web cam showing live fish. The cam is about 14 pylons off shore, so we fished on the next one. Caught a pile of fish, red snapper, grouper, grunts a great din din. We did a lot of bike riding, kite flying, hiking, swimming. The tent camping is a mile down the beach a nice bike ride. The cabins are under the low clearance bridge along with some tent camping on the old quarry side. There is a reef trip that departs from the park marina/store. Because of wind the reef trip was canceled for 7 days. We got to go on the last day we stayed, it was really fun for us all. At this park I was able to shut the real world off back at home. No business all relaxing fun family memories. Bring some crocks or water shoes, the ground is coral. No See em`s come out at night some bug spray kept them OFF.There is water & electricity, No sewer hook ups in the rv sites. It is easy to go dump which we only did one time in 2 weeks. We turned the coach around & parked face in, what a view of the ole bridge. We brought a motorcycle, i made wood runs with it. They don`t want you burning any of the wood in the park. You can only burn in the little cooking grills. We also rented a car from Marathon & did the key west thing a couple days. Hitting the No Name Pub too. That was cool for our boy, he put his dollar on the ceiling. In the park we saw many iguana`s 5 footers even. We caught 1 by the tail, they are all over the place an invasive species. We met many friendly folks in the camp ground some from our home state of Mi. It was about $600 for 14 nights. Pay 11 months in advance. Our time went way to fast, we loved it as a family retreat in the winter. So nice I can`t remember feeling so blue after getting home. I listen to 98.7 conch country radio on the internet, it makes me feel like i am at Bahia Honda right now. You gotta make reservations or forget staying here in the winter. Hope YOU have as much fun as we did at BH. Felt good to have my family to myself at BH a rare deal in todays society.
