For a Chic Aperitivo

One of the chicest places in town to go for an aperitivo is Fusion Bar. Located in the Lugarno Suites Hotel, a swanky hotel facing the Arno River just next to the Ponte Vecchio, this bar is a mix of asian-fusion cuisine with a new world modern twist.

On my most recent trip to Florence, I ended up going here for the first time with a friend who recommended it. The first thing I noticed was the elegant decor. There's a large covered patio area which sits in a small piazza just off the side of the hotel. Wrapped in clear coverings for the chillier months, and open during the days of pleasant temperatures, the outside seating is a mix of tables and groupings of plush white cushions for lounging.

We opted for the indoor seating as it was less crowded, and we thought the bar looked inviting. Cocktails will run you about 12-14 euros, but don't despair...as with many aperitivi in town, food also accompanies your purchase. Not only is the food artfully prepared, but you also don't have to worry about standing in line at the buffet style aperitivo so popular in other places, because servers keep small plates of snacks coming to your seat during your time.

We were presented with a few plates of food and after the server explained what they were, I told him that I was vegetarian and couldn't have the meat, but it was okay and they didn't need to make something special. He insisted, though, on bringing me a few new items that were specially prepared by the chef - all vegetarian.

The drinks are quite amazing as well. If you're looking for an unusual cocktail, look no further. Infusions of herbs, flowers, spices, and fruit await.
