My husband & I were there 4 years ago at the end of May.It was our last day in Vegas before our flight out that evening.I love archeology, ancient ruins & petroglyphs, so I was very excited. For a while we thought we were lost driving in the desert, since we didn't have GPS then. Then we rounded a bend in the road and BAM ! From depressing grey, blasted landscape to every hue of reds, oranges, browns & yellows. It was awe inspiring. That day the temperature was over 100 and is was scorching hot. The sand was hot, the rocks were hot...the air you breathed was hot.We got out of the air conditioned car, walked around the old 1930's camp, got back in the air conditioned car then drove to the head of the path where the best petroglyphs are. Walked down to them, then hurried back to the air conditioned car. Unfortunately we didn't have a hotel room that day since we were leaving town. Our feet & legs were covered with the fine, red dust.Thank god for huge bathrooms in Strip hotel casinos. We were able to wash up before we caught our plane.BE PREPARED ! It can be intensely HOT ! Bring PLENTY OF WATER !I am going back this Feburary and hopefully spend a more leasurely (and cooler) day walking around.
