The Old Town Trolley Tour is a franchise that is available in several cities. We have been on a couple and so we chose the same tour for Key West. Tours leave the Wall Street station on the hour. The whole tour takes about 90 minutes, but allow more time for hopping off and walking around...the conductor will let you know when the next trolley will be arriving at that stop. There are 12 stops - most of them are in the Old Town area. The handout map explains what is in each area so you can choose where to walk and shop during the tour. There are even some stops on the perimeter road at some of the hotels. This makes it easy for those patrons to ride back to the hotel if they get tired - they just have to listen to the conductor's prattle as they ride through town. Be sure to listen closely as the conductor tells the tidbits of information about the ins and outs of the town's history. Look for the gold stars on the refurbished buildings - they show that the building has been brought to "original" status. Even the windows are redone with wavy, handblown glass. Enjoy the tropical plantings (all of which are "imported" since there is no natural vegetation on the keys) along the route. Palms, hibiscus, ferns and many more sway in the ocean breeze and bring to mind the reason the inhabitants have chosen to live in an area that floods with most rains and is in the middle of hurricane territory. The tours operators have added a bonus to the cost of the ride. You get 2 days for the price of one...the next day you can ride the trolley for tree. Just show your ticket to the conductor when you get on. Twice the entertainment for one day's fare!
