The Stedelijk Museum is finally back to its location on the Museumplein in Amsterdam and now it is open to public, though only temporary – till January 2011. Then it will be closed once more, to finish the renovation of the old part and building of a new wing. This last triggers my interest: it is planned to be made in a form of a huge bath-tube. Should be funny. So, the building is still not finished, but the museum continues to please the art-lovers with different project and exhibitions. This autumn the Museum hosts the temporarily program, 2 exhibitions of contemporary art. Unfortunately the works from the collections are not to be seen, but those two exhibitions are interesting as well. What is special about this temporary opening is that several halls of the museum are empty. Some people are angry: they ask each other: where is the art? However my personal opinion is: great! A walk through the white halls is an extraordinary experience: you really feel yourself inside of the museum and have a chance to enjoy it from architectural point of view. Strange was it, but I liked it.The project is also very interactive - visitors can so-to-say "participate" in some art-works, even be a part of them, like On Kawara's Million Years (people can come and read the year-numbers during one hour (one man and one women do it in turns), which is a part of the project). I tried it myself and it was amazing, something very different from what you experience in your daily life. For the rest - it was reasonably interesting. And above all - it is wonderful, that even being closed, and going through a difficult phase of renovation, the museum is still trying to be present in the cultural life. My respect.P.S. To add some facts about the visiting for those who will have the opportunity to do it: it's open from 10 to 17, the price is 10 euro (5 for students), on Thursdays it's open till 22 and there is usually some special program every Thursday evening. Address: Paulus Potterstraat 13, Amsterdam.
