Set your expectations low and prepare to be disappointed. We had reservations at the club floor and arrived at the hotel at 2:30 pm. We were promptly told by the check in staff that the room was not ready and to come back at 4:00. We asked to speak to her supervisor and were told by the supervisor that the check in time is 4:00 and there is nothing that can be done. I took out the reservation paperwork and there is no mention of time on there but this lady was not willing to do anything. I asked to speak to her supervisor. After waiting for 15 minutes Mr Steven King (no joking) came out and was very nice and said we can wait upstairs in the lounge while they get the room done. They did eventually get the room done. The hotel itself is very nice and many of the people working there are quite nice as well but overall it is a disappointing experience at at over $500 per night it is not worth the money.

The Universal park has some very nice rides and the Harry Potter World is very well done but they lack in the overall attention to detail. I would recommend everything other than the wand experience at the Harry Potter world. More than likely you will wait for an hour plus to get in. After getting in, they let approximately 30 people in at a time only 1 child is chosen for the wand experience and the rest of the people just watch and that is the end.

The Italian restaurant at the Portofino Bay Hotel is amazing with good food and amazing service. Our 4 year old daughter fell asleep during dinner and the staff there made a bed with 6 chairs, linnen etc. so the rest of the people could enjoy dinner while our daughter slept. If this attention to detail and overall experience is carried by the rest of the property and the parks Universal truly has an opportunity to do better than Disney (their attention to detail is exceptional).
