Great Tent Camping... When not too Busy

i have only camped here once, for 3 nights, the week before memorial day. the park was about 1/3 full and did not feel crowded at all. my campsite (J-7, highly recommended for tents) was in the back, quiet and tucked away. it was also right next to the new bird sanctuary--amazing! i had no trouble with the registration staff...but i can imagine they get a little harried when it's busy (people act stupid when they're on vacation--have you noticed?) i thought i'd spend most of my time on the east beach, but i ended up spending most of my time at the wonderful pier/park/driftwood beach just across from the campground. the beach there was nice, but remember that high tides may come quickly and erase the beach for a while. the atmosphere of the island was pretty magical...kinda frozen in time and everybody seems to be in a laid-back sort of mood there. i had a blast and will definitely be back to tent camp again.
