Who and how? You'll still be pondering these questions long after leaving the chapel in the historic area of Santa Fe.One of the few non-Adobe churches in the area, the chapel was modeled after Sainte-Chappelle in Paris, and begun in 1873. Um, just one problem, the architect forgot to include a means of getting up to the choir loft. Enter, a carpenter, seeking only food and shelter, which has disappeared into history, unknown. What he left behind is the 'Miracle Stairs', which makes two 360 degree turns without any noticeable means of support. The Catholic Church was deconsecrated in 1971, and is now a private museum ($3 admission).Summer and winter hours vary. Call ahead. Street parking available in the area. Small gift shop at exit.
