A few steps from The Clement Hotel, it immediately became a favorite of ours. Our first visit was for lunch and it was on a Sunday, when Cannery Row is filled with people........literally! As the hotel restaurant menu lacked what our stomachs were asking for (after an early morning flight), we decided to look for the nearest restaurant that caught our fancy. And a succeeding visit was dinner when again, after a day of touring, it was the closest and most, convenient.During the day, the place looked every bit as any regular restaurant, and the only give-away that transforms itself to a "fun" place at night is the big empty space right smack on the center, which fronts a small stage.Lunch was the usual fish and chips, salads, sandwiches, burgers and soups but dinner fare was a bit more dishes like Chicken Piccatta (with rice). On our visits, we had the Soda, coffee, beef patty melt with a generous helping of the Au Jus dipping sauce on the side, their house cheeseburger and a bowl of clam chowder. Let me say that we had clam chowders in 3 other restaurants during our stay and I found theirs the best...a little bit on the sweet buttery taste. Total bill for this lunch was a little over $36. (Add on the tip for the excellent service by "Server 1"...sorry, I forget her name.) Our dinner visit had us sampling the Chicken Piccata and again the burger (which says that we liked it) and sodas. The chicken piccata came with rice and the only complain would be to add a bit more rice, which, on the other hand, would not help with my diet. The meal came to about $40.The restaurant do take on a more "bar-like" feel after dark On the night we dined, the featured musical group had a repertoire of loud/fast blues music getting quite a number of diners dancing and clapping to the music.I personally found it to be a bit loud for my taste, which is more geared towards soft jazz specially during dinner. But, let this not deter you from sampling what Sly McFly has to offer.Overall, it still is a good place to dine.
