Chankanaab is fabulous. The children's "pool" (really a saltwater lagoon) offers an incredible opportunity for kids and inexperienced adults to snorkle and view beautiful fish, aquatic plants, sea urchins, crabs and hermit crabs. The water maxes out at about 4 feet deep... I never expected to see so much sealife here! Snorkel equipment was cheap to rent. There is also a protected lagoon in the botanical park that can be viewed (no swimming to protect the fish) by boardwalk. It has to be seen to believed. One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. The water is so clear you can see every nook and cranny and every fish. There were an abudance of flowering plants, palms and bamboo in the park, as well as green and red iguanas sunning themselves on the rocks. There is sea lion show, a dolphin show (not to be missed!) and you can even pay to swim with the dolphins. The food at the restaurant on site is REALLY REALLY good! Best meal on my trip. I'm SO glad I took the short taxi ride from the port to visit Chankanaab. It was AWESOME! The kids had a great time too.
