A "Local's Restaurant" on Old Fisherman's Wharf

I asked five people who worked in shops on Cannery Row "We want to eat on the Wharf tonight, where should we go?". Amazing- all five said the same restaurant- "Old Fisherman's Grotto". Even more amazing, they were right! Their wine list had remarkable depth, but the prices were below market compared to other restaurants we've been to on the coast. Being big red wine fans, we could tell that the Silver Oak we drank had been properly cellared, and it was quite a value! The service was on par with the finest restaurants we've dined in, though there was nothing pretentious at all about the restaurant- very well in keeping with their Wharf location. Our server (Karen) knew the menu and the specials so well we asked the gentleman at the door if she was part of the owners family. Turns out, the gentleman we were talking to WAS the owner! We highly recommend Old Fisherman's Grotto to any who plan to spend an evening in Monterey- it was delightful!
