In August, my aunt purchased a second home in St. Thomas -- at Point Pleasant Resort. Lucky her. Lucky me.When she's not there, she's renting it, which means that you, too, can stay where I did, which I would highly recommend. The resort has many different types of accommodations -- some hotel-style, some apartment-style, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and so on. I stayed in a two-bedroom condo with a giant deck overlooking the Caribbean Sea. We could see 10 islands from that deck! The place is clean and spacious. The two bedrooms (each with its own bathroom) has king-size beds, closets, and dressers. There are two double sliding doors that open onto the deck (and a third door in one of the bedrooms). The beds are rather hard, but sleeping comes easily when you're in paradise, so it didn't matter too much.Prices vary according to the time of year. The resort itself has a restaurant and a beach bar, and three pools. There is 24-hour security -- I always felt very safe -- and free WiFi in the office lobby. The staff is friendly -- my aunt made fast friends with the gardener, the property manager, and the people who work at the entrance. There is a lovely nature trail that winds (and climbs) throughout the resort. When the property was developed, that was a priority for the developers. It's close to beaches, bars, and some shopping at Red Hook. If I ever go to the island again, I will, of course, be staying here.
