Seeing the ancient Mayan city of Tikal is a memorable experience. The entire complex is huge and consists of structures ranging from ball courts to soaring pyramids. I arranged my tour through PACZ in San Ignacio. It's an easy trip over to Guatemala from Belize. We spent the day walking through the city, admiring the amazing structures that had been carefully taken back from the jungle. You can even climb several of the pyramids. The views at the top are unmatched. Be careful, there's not many guard rails or safety measures. This adds to the raw experience and it's great to sit atop a pyramid a look straight down the many steps to the green grass below. Our guide was a bit chatty and next time I'll probably just go without one. Not to say he wasn't helpful, it's just that It felt more like a museum tour. The day I was there it wasn't crowded and I at one point I even had the grand plaza all to myself!
