A Magnificent Hike Even in September

I am 50 years old, and I'm in really good shape, but this hike with all the stairs really did me in. I began at Curry Village where we were staying and hiked to the top of Half Dome, which from where I began was an estimated 17-18 miles round trip. The stairs really wore me out on the way up, so much so that by the time I got to the final approach to Half Dome, I didn't have much left. And I came down by the Mist Trail as well, which maybe I shouldn't have done because my knees were hurting bad coming down, and didn't recover for about a week afterwards.
Still the waterfalls were worth it, although only a trickle compared to the spring, and the mist didn't reach the trail at any point along the way. I think I came back down that way because I wanted some more pictures of the falls, and some of my best shots were taken on the way down when the sun had changed angles and there were rainbows in some of the shots.
If you go, make sure you take water to drink, and don't forget your camera.
