Florence Italy Cheap B & B Cassia

Member Rating 5 out of 5 by Autumngolightly on November 19, 2009

This little bed and breakfast I booked on line from Australia, my orginal accom organised by a travel agent had such bad reviews I thought NO WAY so did the inevitable and booked on line via venere.com

Arriving via Italy's answer to TGV the amazing red Eurostar at the Florence 50's rail terminal. I had a little bit of a hike to this B & B. But it is well worth it. Florence can be horrendously expensive and this little B & B was only 33 euros. When I got there, no one was home so I rang the number on the door and within 20 minutes a little Italian lass turned up she was concise and polite. Payment up front and the B & B is on the 2nd floor but no lift.

However the rooms and ambience make up for any miss givings I was the only one here at this time so had run of the place. The room was really comfortable with modern fixtures and doonas. There is automated heating clean towels and a very small breakfast of budget juice and a croissant and jam but there is the bonus of a LAVAZZA cappucino machine so that made up for a lot.

Free internet access and key to your room the impressive oak front door and the door stairs door. It is a trust on trust situ and you let yourself out on Check out.

Of course Florence is the occular to world wide art so it is very very busy and there are tourists from all over the world. This little accom is tucked away from the hustle and bustle but still only 20 minutes walk to the duomo and the Ufizi.

I had a great night photographing the Duomo and the next day the Ufizi, Ponte Vecchio and the Bobboli Gardens all worth a visit.

You can also enter the basement of the Duomo and see the remnants of the original building from centuries ago. Everything is for a fee in Florence so remember that. The Baptistry costs to go in but the Duomo is free except for the climb to the lantern in the Dome. There are also hidden gems such as the small 12th century church to St Michael but you are not allowed to photograph inside. There is also a recommended walk along the river bank and take in the view of the surrounding hills and dont miss Creche Cathedral which is a little different to the rest.

For a treat enjoy a Gelati 1.50 euros for a Piccola cone off the beaten track there is also a supermarket underneath the train terminal and it is recommended if you need to stock up because it is cheap. Air quality was 10x better than Milano, there is still traffic here but the sun shone on this stay no photo chemical pollution to block it out. Florence you cant miss, Cassia B & B clean and cheap and you can do your own thing without the hassles well worth the stay but book ahead in high season.
