When we decided to spend the night at the Liberty Hotel I was pretty sure that I was going to want to try one of the restaurants in the hotel, and yes it is restaurants. After looking over their menus on the hotel website chose Clink as the place for dinner. Be warned, this is Boston and this is an upscale hotel, eating hear is going to put a hurting on your wallet. Clink is located on the lobby level of the hotel which in this hotel is the second floor. It is directly opposite of the desks where you check in. This is not just a restaurant that caters to hotel guests; it is a very popular venue with locals as well especially in the later hours. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it you are planning to come in a little later you should have reservations. The atmosphere is very open and there are windows along the whole outside. Along the inside wall there are openings with bars that look like prison windows and there are door sized opening with cell doors, it is very atmospheric and you can look right into the kitchen if you enjoy watching your meal and prep taking place. Al and I had a seat right at one of the windows with the bars. Be forewarned the portion size is petit, almost shockingly so. If the food wasn’t so outstanding that might be an issue, but the food is outstanding. Allow yourself the time to savor all the courses. We spent almost two hours here and enjoyed every minute of it. The artisan cheese plate is the best bargain that they offer. Go for the complete sampling and you will get six different cheeses all with a perfect accompaniment. If may be honey and walnuts, or fig jam. The platter is beautifully plated and comes with delicious toasted bread which they will happily refill if the need arises. It is enough for two to share or it would make a seriously delicious meal for one. Al and I had a great time sharing and everyone was amazing. This would also make a great dessert. If you prefer something else for your appetizer, the eggplant with the pappadam or the nuts and olives offer some other options to share. If you are a loner go for one of their unique salads or soups. I really wanted to try one but I was distracted by the cheese and never did order it.When it comes to the main course choices there is a small but select offering. The 10oz sirloin is a wonder to see as beautiful as it is delicious and perfectly cooked. Served with braised oxtails, celery root and mushrooms, it is just what the carnivore is craving. Al as we all know is quite the steak connoisseur and he rated this one among the best and he loved the braised oxtails. I ordered the pasta with sage butter I have to tell you, unlike any other restaurant I have ever eaten in there was no way I was going to be taking any of this home, it was an extremely petit serving. If it wasn’t for the fact that it bordered on perfection I would have been upset with the lack of quantity for the price charged. Save room for dessert, oh let’s face it, with these petit portions you will have room for dessert, but that is a really good thing. They offer a local apple and cranberry cobbler served with vanilla bean ice cream. It is not a normal cobbler, and why would you expect it to be, everything here is extra ordinary. There was enough for Al and me to share and finally feel full. Even the coffee service is lovely with your own personal tray; you really have to see it to appreciate it. Expect a meal for two to run $120 and up depending on whether or not you choose to have drinks. http://www.clinkrestaurant.com/
