We booked a 'double room with view' for five days in the Sheraton Hotel, Stockholm. On our arrival, we were checked in efficiently and welcomed pleasnatly. However, arriving in the room allocated, it transpired that there was nothing that could be called a 'view' unless you like looking directly into the adjacent building. The next round at the reception desk took quite some time, but eventually we were given a suite on the top floor and a view over the old city(Gamla Stan). The hotel is beautifully appointed, the staff members are friendly and efficient and the location, being at the Tegelbacken - a majorconverging point of several transport routes - is very convenient. It is but a short walk from the Central Railway Station and close to the Old City and various water and road transport departure points.Although the buffet breakfast is on a high standard and offers a variety to satisfy most tastes, some of the attendants would hang around and ignore used plates piling up on the tables. The restaurant is somewhat disappointing as the menu offers the scantiest of choices and, once again, the staff were so inattentive that we left without ordering and went to a close by restaurant, that turned out to be one of the top restaurants in Stockholm: The F12, where the food, service and ambiance is remarkable. Although expensive (mains, desert, juice and espresso for two was over 1000 SEK), we were perfectly happy to rather pay that than to be sujected to the sloppy service at the Hotel's restaurant. For a special occasion and a generous budget the F12 is very highly recommended.Back to the Hotel: The complaints about the restaurant staff would, however, not discourage us from chosing the Seraton again for a future trip (an attractive idea) as the overall experience was really a pleasure. Our booking was arranged through Destination Stockholm (email address: reservations @destination-stockholm.com) and included Breakfast and 2 five day Stockholm a la Carte cards. The card gives one free access to most of the museums, galleries and attractions, free transport on the public transport system (including trains, underground and waterways) and discounts at a number of shops and restaurants. It proved to be very convenient and useful. The cost of the whole package of five nights in the superb hotel (including breakfast) and the Stockholm Cards was SEK 11 100 and was only debited against the credit card account, that we used as a booking confirmation, after we checked out.The physical address of the Stockholm Sheraton is:Tegelbacken 6, 101 23, Stockholm, Sweden. Telephone number: +46(8) 4123502 and fax: +46(8) 412 3502.
