Small but Interesting Collection

The Vancouver Art Gallery has an interesting collection of Canadian artists, especially Emily Carr whose west coast paintings are some of the most significant in Canadian art. There are also some paintings by the Ontario based Group of Seven. The gallery strength is in its collection of contemporary Vancouver and British Columbia artists.

The gallery also features special exhibits. What is on exhibit can be found on the gallery website:

The building itself was a former courthouse and thus its convenient downtown location.

If you are fond of art, a visit is well worth the time. The collection on display is not large so a visit even taking in a special exhibit does not take long and being in downtown Vancouver, it is easily accessible to visitors.

The VAG is open daily from 10 am to 5:30 pm, Tuesday and Thursday until 9 pm. Admission prices vary between summer and winter. Summer adult admission is $19.50 including tax.
