Avid golfers have to make the trip to Pebble once in their lifetime. Yes, it's expensive. And yes, it can be crowded and a little slow at times. But who wants to rush when you're playing a classic? Some mediocre holes, but starting with 7, it's a thrill ride, right through 18. Take a caddie, and try to play late in the day so you can catch the late afternoon sun walking up 18. To make it worthwhile, make a trip out of it. Play Pasatiempo, the home course of Alister MacKenzie, just 45 min. away for less than half the price -- it's another fantastic Top 100 course with great views of Monterrey Bay. And play Spyglass -- the hardest of the three courses, with some great holes by the ocean and a lot of variety. Pebble, Pasatiempo and Spyglass are probably 3 of the best 10 public access courses in the country (Pasatiempo is semi-private but does allow outside play). If you have time for a 4th round, play Spanish Bay...some interesting holes, and great views...it won't disappoint.
